The Centrist Democrat International (IDC-CDI) on Friday unanimously approved on the Kataeb party’s draft resolution submitted by its leader Samy Gemayel.
Speaking at the IDC-CDI's executive committee meeting held in Rome, in which Gemayel holds the position of vice president, he stressed the importance for the international community to shed light on the offences against Lebanon’s national sovereignty as well as on the repeated violations of human rights, especially the increased repressive approach against the press and civilians’ freedom of expression in the country.
Gemayel also outlined Hezbollah’s confiscation of the state’s peace and war decision-making power that has been negatively reflecting on the country and affecting its political and economic stability.
He asked for support to restore Lebanon's sovereignty, security forces, and exclusive military possession of arms.
The decision called for ending the Iranian interference and for pulling Lebanon out of the foreign axes’ power play, and pushed for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions, notably 1701 and 1559.
The Kataeb leader touched upon the deteriorating economic situation due to the Lebanese government’s mismanagement and failure to adopt the required reforms that would progressively move the country forward.
He expressed fear of dragging Lebanon towards further international isolation as a result of growing sanctions on a number of its banks, institutions and officials.
The meeting was attended by Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, Former Slovenia’s Prime Minister Janez jansa, the European People's Party's Secretary General, Antonio López-Istúriz and various high-ranking officials.
