The President's Signature on Budget Is on Hold Due to Article Mix-up

President Michel Aoun hasn’t signed the 2019 state budget yet due to a mix-up over the approval of Article 80 in the budget pertaining to the state hires, according to a statement issued by the Presidential office.

The statement addressed the employment of Civil Service Council applicants who have passed their exams but have yet to be hired due to a political strife over sectarian disproportion between Christian and Muslim candidates.

“There appears to be a confusion surrounding Article 80 of the budget, which entails explanation, noted that the President is aware of the importance of approving and publishing the budget and of sustaining the financial situation,” the statement added.
