Gemayel Slams Constitutional Council's Members Election as 'Scandalous'

MP Nadim Gemayel deemed the way that five of the Constitutional Council members were elected in the Parliament as unacceptable, saying that the Kataeb lawmakers had walked out of the election session because it was "scandalous".

"What happened deals a harsh blow to democracy, the Parliament and the norms," Gemayel told Al-Joumhouria newspaper.

"The country will continue to drown in chaos as long as the norms are not respected," he warned.

Gemayel pointed out that the lawmakers only knew about the Constitutional Council members election through the media as this item had not been included in the agenda they received.

"The lawmakers were dealt with very frivolously. The résumés of the candidates were distributed only at the beginning of the session. It is possible to read and assess hundreds of pages in half an hour?"
