Lebanon's Food Safety Is at Risk

Head of the Consumer Protection Association Nada Nehme said that food safety control has always been applied in Lebanon, since before the crisis, however, it was never properly handled.

This fact led to its deterioration in view of the accumulating crises.

She expressed her sorrow “for never believing in food safety, especially since the control is absent and the citizen no longer cares about the quality and is busy monitoring the prices’ daily increase.”

She added, “We worked really hard to pass the food safety law, however, it was never implemented.”

As for the videos published on social media showing rotten food and insects inside food cans, she considered, “The main reason behind this phenomenon is recklessness and the officials’ greed,” confirming, “as long as there is no control, most of the establishments will do whatever pleases them.”
