Lebanon Seizes 800 Kg of Explosives, Detains Two Hezbollah Members

Lebanese security forces have seized 800 kilograms of explosives from a vehicle at a checkpoint in Dahr al-Baidar, arresting two men affiliated with Hezbollah, a Lebanese security source said, in a development that has raised questions about a possible assassination plot.

The explosives were discovered at an Internal Security Forces checkpoint in Dahr al-Baidar, the source said, identifying the two men by the initials A-S-K and H-A-A.

The seized materials included 250 kilograms of TNT and a quantity of C4 explosives exceeding that amount, the source said. The Internal Security Forces handed the two detainees over to the Lebanese army's Military Police, which has launched an investigation.

Some media outlets have suggested that the seizure may be linked to preparations for an assassination, although no confirmed information has established the intended target or the purpose of the explosives.

The discovery came as Israel carried out another strike in Lebanon's eastern Bekaa Valley, highlighting the widening geographical scope of Israeli military operations beyond the country's southern border region.

An Israeli drone targeted a jeep in the town of Hawsh al-Sayyid Ali, in the Hermel district near the Lebanese-Syrian border, firing a missile that missed the vehicle, according to reports of the incident.

Lebanon's Health Ministry said the Israeli attack on the outskirts of the town wounded six people, including five Syrians, among them two women, and one Lebanese national.

The incident marked the first time in a relatively long period that Israel had resumed assassination operations in areas far from southern Lebanon.

The Israeli military said later that it had targeted Yousef Ali al-Khassoun, describing him as a Syrian militant who was promoting attacks against Israeli civilians and military personnel in southern Syria under the direction of what it called the Iranian terror regime.
