Sayegh Stresses Importance of Lebanon's Sovereignty

Kataeb Deputy Selim Sayegh on Friday highlighted the importance of Lebanon’s sovereignty, saying that there are some people who refuse the state principle.

“Today a national strategy to protect Lebanon should be addressed as well as a diplomatic protection through the adoption of neutrality. I was working on this project with martyr Mohammad Shatah,”Sayegh said during a meeting with laweyrs of Jbeil and Keserwan-Ftouh.

“How can we protect a citizen while a lawyer needs protection? Those who achieve justice today feel that all immunities have been lost, and we are facing this tragedy with you, where the principle of equality between the Lebanese is absent, which disrupts the principle of protecting human dignity,” he noted.

Sayegh wondered about the reason why any Lebanese might disagree with another Lebanese about the sovereignty of this country.

“This problem must be addressed especially since you are leaders of opinion, how do we convince Hezbollah to surrender its weapons and engage in the concept of the state because the problem today is with the mind that manages the weapon,” he noted.

“15 May will be the day when everyone will prove Hezbollah that it cannot hold sway over Lebanon anymore. What is the point if the sectarian balance exists in Lebanon while the decision is in the hands of Hezbollah?” he asked.

Sayegh stressed the importance of a dialogue after the elections that approves the required reforms, saying that the Kataeb party has presented a necessary project to establish decentralization.

The Kataeb deputy deemed public affairs as sacred in Lebanon, saying that politics is not a profession.

“Today they chose those who have a strong and clear discourse. Do not choose the merchants of politics and attitudes, nor those fleeing and obstructing justice, because we deserve a true homeland as our children do. By migrating from Lebanon, we shouldered the responsibility in order to work to bring them back to Lebanon. Even though some are trying to postpone and suspend the elections, we have to take action,” he said addressing the lawyers.

"On May 16th, I should proudly have the audacity to look my children in the eyes that I have fulfilled my duties," he concluded.
