The Lebanese Army on Sunday warned civilians against entering certain areas in the south of the country, citing the presence of unexploded ordnance and the risk of encounters with Israeli forces. The statement came as tensions escalated following deadly Israeli gunfire on civilians and reports of Israeli incursions into Lebanese territory.
"The Army Command stresses the importance of citizens refraining from entering southern areas where deployment has not yet been completed and urges them to comply with the instructions of deployed military units," the Lebanese Army said in a statement. "This is to ensure their safety and prevent civilian casualties, given the danger posed by unexploded ordnance left behind by the Israeli enemy, as well as the potential presence of enemy forces in those areas."
Shortly after the warning, Israeli forces reportedly opened fire on residential areas in the southern town of Houla after civilians entered the area, killing a woman and injuring several others. Israeli forces also abducted three Lebanese citizens from the town, local reports said.
Israeli forces abducted another Lebanese citizen from the town of Maroun al-Ras, located between Bint Jbeil and Maroun, as cross-border tensions continued to mount.
Earlier in the day, an Israeli military unit advanced toward the strategic Sadana Hill in Kfarshouba, positioning itself opposite a Lebanese Army post and initiating excavation work. Meanwhile, Israeli forces were reported to be constructing a road through the Sadana forest, extending toward the towns of Kfar Hamam and Al-Hebariyeh.
In another development, residents of Houla moved into their town after bypassing a Lebanese Army checkpoint and the earth barriers erected by Israeli troops. As of now, there has been no sign of Israeli soldiers in the area, reports said.
Lebanese broadcaster Al-Jadeed reported that the Lebanese Army was advancing toward the outskirts of Markaba from the direction of Bani Hayyan after dismantling Israeli-installed earth barriers.
Meanwhile, in the town of Marwahin, an Israeli drone targeted a bulldozer working to reopen roads, dropping an explosive device on the vehicle. No injuries were reported.
