One month after Lebanon announced plans to begin disarming Hezbollah, officials in Israel and the United States are observing the first signs of enforcement, The Jerusalem Post reported.
Around ten days ago, the ceasefire implementation committee met in Ras al-Naqoura. A source familiar with the talks told The Jerusalem Post that while Lebanon’s military is still in the early stages, “yes, they are taking steps to dismantle the organization’s weapons.”
For now, the Lebanese army has avoided confronting Hezbollah’s most serious violations, focusing instead on smaller breaches of the ceasefire. Still, observers see the limited actions as a positive sign.
According to figures obtained by The Jerusalem Post, Israel has reported 1,555 violations since the truce took effect. The Lebanese army has addressed about a third of them and independently identified and acted on 415 violations attributed to Hezbollah.
