The Lebanese Army Command released a statement on Monday in which it issued firmly denied reports of alleged security leaks involving its officers, categorically rejecting claims that any of its higher-ups had given away sensitive military information to a partisan entity.
The Army's statement underlined the dedication and competence of its officers, who are tasked with carrying out their duties in various units with the utmost professionalism. All operations, the Army asserted, are conducted in strict adherence to the orders of the Army Command, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining security and order in Lebanon.
The allegations surfaced earlier when The Times reported that a senior officer in the Lebanese Army, identified as Suhail Bahij Harb, had allegedly leaked classified military information to Hezbollah. Harb, who holds the position of Chief of Military Intelligence for Southern Lebanon, was accused of sharing sensitive details from a security control room. This facility, operated jointly by the United States, France, and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), was established to monitor and enforce the ceasefire agreement that ended the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
According to the report, Harb allegedly informed Hezbollah in advance of airstrikes and patrols conducted by foreign forces, enabling the group to relocate weapons and avoid detection. These revelations, if true, would represent a significant breach of trust and could jeopardize the efforts to maintain peace in the region.
