The United States has excluded the Lebanese army from its suspension of aid to Lebanon, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the country's military.
"The United States is committed to supporting the implementation of the cessation of hostilities and will continue to assist the Lebanese army, Lebanon’s sole security guarantor," the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs said in a post on X.
This announcement comes after reports last week that U.S. President Donald Trump had decided to freeze all U.S. aid to Lebanon, citing the need for the country to achieve certain milestones before assistance could resume. A U.S. State Department official confirmed to Al-Arabiya TV that the freeze is part of a broader review to ensure U.S. assistance aligns with Washington’s policies.
While all other aid remains suspended, the U.S. decision to maintain support for the Lebanese army signals Washington’s continued backing for Lebanon’s official security forces amid ongoing political and security challenges.
