Kataeb Warns of Hezbollah’s Potential Role in Regional Escalation, Demands State Control of Weapons

The Kataeb's Political Bureau convened its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party leader Samy Gemayel. The session opened with a moment of silence in memory of Maya Bashir Gemayel. The bureau then reviewed the latest political and security developments and issued the following statement:

1. The Political Bureau expresses deep concern over recent statements by Hezbollah officials declaring their readiness to support Tehran in the event of a military strike against it. It also points to reports of on-the-ground movements by officers of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as well as operatives linked to Palestinian factions operating in areas under Hezbollah’s control, as well as the widening scope of Israeli airstrikes inside Lebanese territory.

In light of these developments, the bureau renews its call for Lebanon’s legitimate armed forces to act swiftly and decisively to dismantle Hezbollah’s security and military infrastructure across all Lebanese territory, without exception.

2. The Political Bureau stresses that the State’s failure to assert its authority and sovereignty over all Lebanese territory undermines the integrity of upcoming elections, compromises the freedom to run for office and to vote, and exposes the democratic process to pressure and intimidation.

It further emphasizes that any meaningful reform of political life or improvement in governance will remain out of reach unless the State holds exclusive control over weapons and over the decision of war and peace through its legitimate institutions.
