A Kataeb source told "Voice of Lebanon" that the Kataeb Party firmly opposed Hezbollah’s participation in the government, particularly given its failure to govern the country and its role in dragging Lebanon into a devastating war.
However, the Kataeb Party fully supports the fair representation of the Shiite community, ensuring its presence in government with dignity and respect. This aligns with the Prime Minister-designate’s approach, as he has opted not to include Hezbollah in the cabinet but rather to appoint independent figures who are respected by Shiite parliamentary blocs.
The Kataeb source stressed that Hezbollah must understand that participating in the government means embracing the logic of the state, relinquishing its weapons, dismantling its parallel economy, halting smuggling operations, and dismantling its global networks that have strained Lebanon’s relations with much of the world.
Furthermore, Hezbollah must abide by both Lebanese and international judicial rulings, hand over detainees, and refrain from using state institutions to strengthen its military and political influence.
The source stated that Hezbollah’s participation in the government must necessarily mean severing its ties with Iran, rejecting any scenario in which the Shiite community would bear the cost of Hezbollah’s adventures.
The Kataeb source also warned against enabling Hezbollah to dominate government decision-making by granting it a fifth minister—effectively handing it the key to paralyzing the government under the pretext of sectarian balance.
The source also warned against the multi-faceted campaigns aimed at undermining the presidency, disrupting the momentum that accompanied the president’s election, and weakening the local and international support he has garnered.
Furthermore, the source cautioned against efforts to obstruct the Prime Minister-designate's mission, frustrate his efforts, and pressure him into stepping down.
