Kataeb Says Diplomacy Is Lebanon’s Only Way Out of Crisis, Warns Hezbollah Poses Existential Threat

The Kataeb Political Bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of Party Leader Samy Gemayel, during which members reviewed the latest developments and issued the following statement:

1. The Political Bureau reaffirms its support for the direct negotiations taking place in Washington, including the political, military, and security tracks, expressing hope that they will lead to a full and comprehensive end to the war. The bureau stresses that diplomacy, coupled with the guarantees offered by Lebanon’s international partners and friends, remains the only viable path out of the crisis into which Hezbollah has dragged Lebanon in pursuit of Iranian interests, triggering the devastating consequences of Israel’s military campaign.

2. The Political Bureau considers that the systematic destruction and displacement being carried out by Israel south of the Zahrani River—from Tyre and Nabatiyeh to Bint Jbeil and Khiyam, and from Machghara in the Western Bekaa to communities across the region south of the Zahrani—once again highlights the grave threat Hezbollah poses to the future and very existence of the Lebanese State, as well as to the Shiite community in particular and the people of southern Lebanon as a whole.

This reality requires a clear and decisive response from the government, by instructing the Lebanese Armed Forces to implement its policy aimed at placing all weapons under State authority and preventing armed groups from operating anywhere on Lebanese territory, beginning in the south and extending across the entire country.

In this context, the party expresses its support for residents of Tyre and Nabatiyeh who are demanding that their regions be declared weapons-free zones. It also urges the government to fully implement its decisions regarding the capital, Beirut, as part of a broader effort to ensure that State authority is enforced uniformly across all Lebanese territory.
