The Kataeb Party’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting under the leadership of party president, MP Samy Gemayel. After reviewing recent political and security developments, the Bureau issued the following statement:
1. The Bureau affirms that it is not only the right but the duty of the Lebanese state to explore every possible avenue to safeguard the country’s interests and protect its citizens, particularly those living in southern Lebanon.
The party emphasizes that any negotiations must aim to end the ongoing state of conflict, achieve lasting stability in the south, and ensure comprehensive security across Lebanon. This includes halting Israeli attacks, securing Israel’s withdrawal from the five hilltops, arranging the return of prisoners, and completing the demarcation of land borders.
The Bureau stressed that pursuing a diplomatic track is central to state sovereignty, not contrary to it, and that its success requires that weapons remain exclusively under state control.
2. The Bureau calls on the government to begin its next session by discussing the draft law submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning the expatriate vote, as a preliminary step toward submitting it to Parliament for prompt approval. The law would guarantee the constitutional right of non-resident Lebanese to vote for all 128 members of Parliament from their countries of residence.
In this context, the Bureau urges Lebanese citizens abroad to register in large numbers before the November 20 deadline, reaffirming that their right to vote is fully protected under the Constitution.
3. The Bureau urges the government to expedite the enactment of the Financial Gap Law to complete the necessary reform agenda. This would allow the executive branch to fulfill its responsibilities and pave the way for Parliament to approve essential reform legislation, enabling Lebanon to participate in an international conference to address its financial and economic crisis on the basis of transparency and accountability.
