Kataeb Party: To Complete Discussion on Article 49 in a Bid to Hold Successive Presidential Elections Sessions

The Kataeb Party’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting chaired by Kataeb Leader MP Samy Gemayel. After the meeting, the following statement was issued:

1-The Kataeb Party voices its refusal over the underestimation of the presidential elections which is supposed to be the daily concern of all political parties whose duty is to set aside point-scoring processes and useless media debates until the completion of this fateful and national duty.

It deplores the confusion in the democratic life due to the refusal of implementing the Constitution, respecting laws and relying on jurisprudence, saying that if this situation persists, presidential elections will hit the wall.

Hence, it stresses the need to complete the discussion initiated by the Kataeb Lawmakers within the Parliament on Article 49 of the Lebanese Constitution that stipulates the legal quorum for convening the session to pave the way for the holding of successive presidential elections sessions to pick a Head of State away from the logic of obstruction currently adopted.

The Kataeb Political Bureau calls on the other group that keeps on talking about its extended hand to get out of the logic of blank votes and propose a presidential candidate in a bid to enter into the democratic game.

The Kataeb Political Bureau considers that linking the fate of the presidential elections and the country to bilateral understandings that fall at times and float at others according to personal ambitions or links to foreign agendas as the biggest evidence of Hezbollah’s control over the country, saying that this party and its allies are holding Lebanon as hostage to their interests and the interests of their regional operator awaiting a settlement that brings a president who protects illegal weapons.

2-The Kataeb Political Bureau warns against security violations that have begun to show up in some Lebanese regions and leads to conflicts that Lebanon does not need.

It also calls on everyone to be aware in a bid to prevent conflicts, inviting the security forces to intensify their presence, especially during the holidays in a bid to preserve stability.
