The Kataeb Party’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting chaired by Kataeb Leader MP Samy Gemayel. After the meeting, the following statement was issued:
1-The Kataeb Political Bureau reiterates the importance of holding the municipal elections on time, hoping that the call that was made yesterday will not simply be to buy time and silence the dissenting voices to annul the elections.
It considers that the arguments to postpone the municipal elections had failed after recognizing the advisability of financing them from special drawing rights, away from the bidding, especially since it was the first time that funds allocated to the Lebanese were spent to serve them, with their consent and with the willingness of the international community to help.
2-The Kataeb Political Bureau praises the foreign initiatives for helping to end the presidential vacuum which has become a dangerous threat for the country, calling for the election of a president who upholds Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence and Constitution and who is capable of bringing the Lebanese together for a serious internal negotiation, in parallel with reconnecting Lebanon with its Arab surroundings and the world.
It also considers that the file of displaced Syrians requires a quick and radical solution as it is putting a strain on Lebanon at the security and economic levels.
3- The Kataeb Political Bureau welcomes the European interaction with the Lebanese demands raised by Lawmaker Elias Hankach and the Lawmakers who visited the European capital more than once, saying that time has come for the displaced Syrians to return to safe regions in their country and be provided with material assistance to encourage them to return as a necessary first step to pave the way for a final solution.
