The Kataeb's Political Bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of Party Leader Samy Gemayel. After discussing the latest round of municipal and local (mukhtar) elections, as well as broader regional developments, the following statement was released:
1. As the third round of municipal and local elections concludes, the Lebanese people have once again shown a deep commitment to local governance. Their participation reflects a strong desire to improve their communities and effect meaningful change through municipal leadership.
Following the success of Beirut residents in preserving the capital’s sectarian power-sharing model, the Political Bureau believes that there is now renewed hope for development initiatives that will restore Beirut’s vibrancy and modern character after years of stagnation and decline.
The Party congratulates all the winners in the Bekaa Governorate and emphasizes that the path forward must prioritize development and public service, away from personal agendas or petty political considerations.
The Bureau also extends congratulations to the winners in Zahle, despite the heavy smear campaigns waged against the Kataeb Party. In the face of these attacks, the Party chose not to be dragged into a pointless war of words—one that goes against the Kataeb's principles and constitutes an act of disrespect toward the people of Zahle.
The Party regrets the attempts to instill fear during the electoral process and to exploit the city’s resistance legacy to divide Zahle’s pro-sovereignty community. Citizens must not be pitted against one another, especially in the context of what should have been a unifying development-focused municipal election.
2. The Kataeb Party believes the region is on the cusp of a new era of stability and peace; an opportunity Lebanon cannot afford to miss, especially after all it has endured and given the heavy prices it has already paid.
The Political Bureau welcomes the recent remarks made by the President of the Republic in support of this trajectory and underscores the importance of aligning Lebanon with the region’s shifting landscape and evolving path. That alignment must begin with ensuring that weapons are exclusively in the hands of the state.
The Kataeb Party places its full confidence in the President to act quickly on this internationally supported demand. Lebanon must not fall behind this critical opportunity. It cannot afford to remain on the sidelines while others move forward.
