Kataeb Party Presses for Concrete Measures to Enforce Government Decision on Hezbollah

The Kataeb's Political Bureau convened its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of Party Leader Samy Gemayel. After reviewing the latest political, security, and social developments, it issued the following statement:

1. The Political Bureau considers that the Cabinet’s decision to ban the security and military activities of Hezbollah, designate it as operating outside the law, and immediately begin placing all weapons under the sole authority of the State across the entire Lebanese territory constitutes a historic, albeit long overdue, step toward restoring State sovereignty and prestige.

The Bureau stresses, however, that the decision must be backed by clear, enforceable measures that firmly establish the State’s exclusive control over arms and its sole authority to decide on matters of war and peace.

In that context, it calls for declaring a state of emergency to enable the Lebanese Armed Forces and other security agencies to deploy nationwide in order to safeguard internal stability.

The party also urges a reassessment of diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, advocating a move toward severing ties with Tehran and expelling its “suspicious” diplomatic mission, given the repeated interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs and the blatant violation of national sovereignty.

On the domestic front, the Political Bureau called for shutting down all illegal economic and financial entities that function as organizational or funding arms of groups operating outside State legitimacy, and for bringing them fully under the rule of law.

2. The Political Bureau strongly condemns what it described as Iranian aggression against Arab states that had been engaged in sincere, good-faith efforts to de-escalate regional tensions, only to be met with blatant ingratitude. It expresses full solidarity with Arab countries that have hosted Lebanese communities during the most difficult periods, treating them as their own citizens.

3. The Bureau voices deep regret over the suffering of residents in southern Lebanon who have once again been forced to flee their homes. It laments the sight of elderly civilians and children driven from their land under fire, describing the situation as the consequence of another reckless venture undertaken by Hezbollah.

Displaced people should be housed exclusively in centers designated by the relevant official authorities, particularly the Ministry of Social Affairs, while making sure that these facilities are placed under direct security oversight to ensure the safety of both displaced families and host communities.

The Political Bureau also urges local authorities to require property owners to notify municipalities of the identities of displaced individuals staying on their premises and to ensure that such accommodations are free of any armed presence or unlawful activity, in order to protect the security and stability of towns and villages.
