The Kataeb Party’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting chaired by Kataeb Leader MP Samy Gemayel. After the meeting, the following statement was issued:
1-The Kataeb Political Bureau appreciates any external initiative that could alleviate the imminent threat to Lebanon arising from the ongoing conflict in the region and the expended targeting into new Lebanese areas, claiming more innocent lives.
The Kataeb Political Bureau considers that any proposal must adhere to a set of principles that cannot be overlooked to be acceptable and to ensure its success, foremost among them the establishment of a full-fledged state in accordance with the requirements of the Lebanese Constitution.
Firstly, it must be free from any external or internal dominance, possess the decision of war and peace, safeguard its borders, and have its decisions emanate from the representatives of the Lebanese people.
Secondly, weapons should be confined to the hands of legitimate forces and the Lebanese army, the sole legitimate defender of the nation.
Thirdly, Lebanese citizens should be equal under the law, with no distinction between first-class citizen and second-class citizens.
Fourthly, it should respect Lebanon's face and pluralism, as stipulated in the preamble of the constitution, and its inclusive role in the world should be respected.
The Kataeb Political Bureau reiterates its rejection of any proposal that does not take into account these principles, asserting that the Kataeb Party will confront any violation of these principles by all available means.
2- It has become more than necessary to free the presidential entitlement and not to bet on its exchange it with regional events. All neighbouring countries to conflict zones meet their entitlements on time except Lebanon, which has fallen hostage to Hezbollah and Iran's agenda.
The Kataeb Political Bureau emphasizes that any proposal will be nullified as long as Hezbollah and its allies adhere to the policy of imposition and dictation.
3-The Kataeb Political Bureau holds the remnants of power responsible for the consequences that will result from approving increases in salaries of public sector employees and retirees. While rightfully justified, these increases were patchy and unjustly differentiated between groups without a clear plan or explicit sources to secure the necessary funds.
Questioning the sources of funds to secure salaries, the Kataeb Political Bureau warns against any collusion to return to the policy of currency printing, which led to unprecedented inflation and a complete collapse of the Lebanese people's resources, eroding their lifetime earnings.
