Israeli Army Seizes Control of Syrian Side of Mount Hermon

Israeli army has reportedly taken control of the Syrian side of Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights, according to Saudi news outlet Al Hadath. The report comes amid heightened tensions in the region following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria.

The troops did not face any resistance during the operation, Israeli media reported.

The Israeli military earlier announced the deployment of troops to the buffer zone along the border with Syria.

Mount Hermon, a strategic high point in the Golan Heights, has long been a site of military and geopolitical significance. Its location provides a crucial vantage point over the surrounding areas, making control of the region a key objective for maintaining security and influence.

The reported move aligns with Israel’s heightened focus on securing its northern border following the recent upheaval in Syria. With the collapse of the Syrian government, the buffer zone established by the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement has disintegrated, leaving a security vacuum.

During a visit to the Israeli-Syrian border area on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized the importance of protecting Israel’s borders and preventing hostile forces from establishing a foothold in the area. Netanyahu stated that Israel would take all necessary measures to ensure the security of its citizens and maintain stability along its borders.
