The Israeli army announced on Friday that it is reinforcing its presence along the border with Syria amid serious security developments there.
The move follows fresh assessments conducted by Israeli army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi and the head of the Northern Command, Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin, on Thursday.
In response to the evolving situation, the Israeli army has deployed additional ground and air forces to the Golan Heights, with troops positioned along the border. The military said it has raised its readiness levels in anticipation of various scenarios, including potential threats emanating from the rapidly shifting dynamics in Syria.
"The Israeli army is following the events and is prepared for any scenario in attack and defense," a military spokesperson stated. "We will not allow a threat near Israel's border and will work to thwart any threat to the citizens of the State of Israel."
Israel's security cabinet is set to hold two follow-up meetings over the weekend to discuss the ongoing conflict in Syria, according to an official quoted by Axios journalist Barak Ravid. These meetings, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday evenings, will assess the situation as rebel groups rapidly advance through various regions of the country.
