Tensions remained high along in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, as sustained Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon fueled uncertainty over whether a recently extended three-week ceasefire will hold or collapse into broader escalation.
Israeli drones were reported flying over multiple areas, including Beirut, its southern suburbs, Mount Lebanon, the coastal city of Tyre, and several towns in the western sector, highlighting persistent aerial surveillance and military activity across the country.
On the ground in southern Lebanon, violence continued. An Israeli drone strike hit a motorcycle in the town of Majdal Zoun, wounding two people who were transported by emergency teams to hospitals in Tyre. Israeli warplanes also launched three airstrikes beginning around 6 a.m. on the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiya.
Israeli forces opened heavy machine-gun fire toward the Mahna district in the city of Bint Jbeil, while artillery shelling struck the town of Qlayleh in the Tyre district. Rescue teams continued searching for missing persons following an earlier Israeli strike on the town of Haris in the Bint Jbeil area.
On the Israeli side, the military said a soldier was seriously wounded and another lightly injured on Sunday after a booby-trapped drone fell in southern Lebanon. Both were evacuated to hospital, and their families were notified, the army said.
The Israeli military also reported launching interceptor missiles at what it described as “suspicious aerial targets” detected over southern Lebanon, including another suspected Hezbollah drone over areas where Israeli troops are deployed.
Israel Army Radio, citing a military source, said commanders operating in southern Lebanon are increasingly frustrated by the growing threat posed by Hezbollah drones.
In parallel, Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee published images and footage showing ongoing operations in southern Lebanon and the discovery of weapons and ammunition caches.
“Forces from the Infantry School Brigade under the command of the 91st Division in southern Lebanon have destroyed more than 1,000 Hezbollah infrastructure sites used to carry out attacks against our forces, including booby-trapped buildings and structures where combat equipment was found,” Adraee said in a statement on X.
“The forces also uncovered hundreds of weapons, including machine guns, Kalashnikov rifles, hand grenades, mines, pistols, anti-tank missiles, RPG rounds, and mortar shells,” he added.
Despite the ceasefire, Israeli strikes intensified throughout the day across multiple locations in southern Lebanon.
Warplanes carried out an airstrike on the town of Kounine in the Bint Jbeil district, while the town of Ghandooriyeh was hit in a separate raid. Aircraft launched two consecutive strikes on Touline and Al-Sawaneh, and a drone targeted Qabrikha in the Marjayoun district. At the same time, artillery shelling using phosphorus rounds struck the towns of Braachit and Shaqra in Bint Jbeil.
Further airstrikes were reported later in the afternoon on Beit Yahoun, Kounine, and Zawtar al-Sharqiya. According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, an Israeli Apache helicopter carried out heavy machine-gun fire near the town of Taybeh in the Marjayoun district.
Israeli warplanes also struck Khirbet Selm in the Bir al-Salasil area, destroying several homes and commercial shops. The army fired two phosphorus shells at the area between Shaqra and Braachit, while additional airstrikes hit Shaqra and Majdal Zoun in the Tyre district. Artillery shelling also targeted Buyout al-Sayyad in Tyre.
A series of air raids hit the town of Tebnine and nearby Kafra in the Bint Jbeil district, amid continued Israeli aerial activity and repeated strikes on previously threatened areas.
In a separate incident, an Israeli drone struck a motorcycle at the Mansouri junction along the coastal road leading to Naqoura. Warplanes also targeted the outskirts of Shaqra, while the Tir Harma area in the town of Yater was struck.
Israeli forces carried out a demolition operation in the town of Rshaf, coinciding with the firing of a phosphorus shell over Braachit. Another drone strike targeted an agricultural orchard between Burj al-Shamali and Al-Housh, while an airstrike hit Jabal al-Batam in the Tyre district.
A second drone strike targeted a motorcycle in Majdal Zoun, again wounding two people who were transported to hospitals in the area.
Since early morning, Israeli warplanes have conducted at least three airstrikes on Zawtar al-Sharqiya alone.
A video circulating online showed the demolition of the Bint Jbeil stadium, known as Al-Raya Stadium, from what appeared to be the Israeli military’s operations command center.
