Israel’s government has authorized the call-up of up to 400,000 reservists, expanding the pool available to the military as tensions escalate in its ongoing conflicts with Iran and Hezbollah.
The Israeli military clarified that the figure does not represent the exact number of reservists who will be activated, but rather a “ceiling that allows flexibility according to operational needs.”
“The framework is intended to address challenges across multiple fronts, particularly within the scope of Operation Roaring Lion,” the army said, referring to the current campaign against Iranian-linked targets.
The previous cap on emergency reservist call-ups was 280,000, set in December.
Under normal circumstances, the Israeli army can only summon reservists with long notice and for limited periods. The current framework allows for rapid mobilization and extended service to meet the demands of ongoing operations.
