Lebanon’s military said on Wednesday that an Iranian-made missile that exploded over the country on Tuesday was not aimed at Lebanese territory.
The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) said an analysis of fragments collected from the debris confirmed that the missile was a Qadr-110, a guided ballistic missile manufactured in Iran. The missile is approximately 16 meters long, has a range of roughly 2,000 kilometers, and carries multiple smaller missiles.
“It exploded at a high altitude, which suggests that its target was outside Lebanese territory,” the LAF said in a statement on X, adding that it was not yet clear whether the missile detonated due to a technical malfunction or as a result of interception.
Following the missile’s fall across a wide geographic area on Tuesday, specialized army units conducted an immediate field survey, collecting debris and analyzing the fragments to determine the missile’s specifications and trajectory.
The Army Command emphasized that there are no missile defense systems deployed within Lebanese territory and reiterated that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
