Hostilities Continue in Southern Lebanon Despite De-escalation Efforts

An Israeli drone strike killed a dentist, his son, and his daughter on Tuesday while they were traveling on the Nabatiyeh–Khardali road in southern Lebanon, a few hours after Lebanon had announced a partial ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel.

The victims were identified as Dr. James Karam, a dentist from the town of Qlayaa, along with his two children. According to family members, Karam had traveled earlier in the day with his son and daughter to the coastal city of Sidon to attend to university and school obligations and sit for exams. The three were killed on their return journey when their vehicle was struck by a drone, relatives said.

The strike came amid a broader escalation across southern Lebanon, where Israeli air and artillery attacks continued throughout the day and overnight, targeting multiple towns and areas in the south.

Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike on the town of Shaqra in the Tyre district, while artillery shelling hit Nabatieh al-Fawqa, Choukin, and Kfar Tebnit, according to local reports. Additional shelling targeted the area between Srifa and Shaqra, as well as the towns of Toul, Khirbet Selm, and Kfarsir.

In a separate early-morning operation, Israeli aircraft struck the coastal town of Mansouri in the Tyre district, also accompanied by artillery fire.

Shortly after midnight, the Israeli military carried out a large demolition operation in the Ariyya area of Dibbine. The blasts were powerful enough to be heard across several parts of southern Lebanon, including the coastal city of Sidon, according to local accounts.

The operation reportedly destroyed an entire neighborhood, leveling residential buildings and commercial shops within the targeted area.

Later in the night, a second airstrike hit a house in Al-Housh, near Tyre, destroying the building and damaging surrounding homes. Two people were injured and pulled from the rubble by rescue teams from the Islamic Risala Scout Association before being transferred to the Lebanese-Italian Hospital, according to rescue sources.
