A wave of joy swept through the northern town of Chekka as residents gathered to welcome back Suheil Hamawi, who returned home after spending more than 33 years in Syrian prisons.
Hamawi was greeted by a large crowd of family, friends, and fellow residents, all eager to celebrate his long-awaited homecoming. Among those present were the town’s parish priest, Father Ibrahim Chahine, and MP Adib Abd Al-Massih.
This remarkable occasion marks Hamawi as one of the first Lebanese detainees to return from Syria after decades of captivity. His release has sparked renewed hope among families still waiting for the return of their loved ones.
