In an intensifying escalation of violence, Hezbollah announced the use of its newly-developed "Fadi 3" rockets in multiple strikes on Israeli military targets, including a significant hit on the Shimshon military base. The militant group said the attacks were "in defense of Lebanon and its people," as well as in support of Gaza.
According to a statement released by Hezbollah on Tuesday, the Shimshon base, described as a "leading processing center and a regional processing unit," was one of several sites targeted in overnight strikes. The group also claimed responsibility for an attack on an explosives factory located 60 kilometers (37 miles) inside Israel, using its Fadi rockets around 4 a.m. local time.
Further escalations included multiple assaults on the Megiddo airfield near the northern Israeli town of Afula. Hezbollah stated that it had targeted the airfield three times, marking a significant intensification of its ongoing campaign against Israeli military sites. The Megiddo airfield, previously untouched in the year-long conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, was one of many targets hit in the latest round of violence.
Hezbollah also reported launching rocket barrages at the Rosh Pina settlement and bombarding Israeli military installations, including the Nimra Base and the Elyakim military camp south of Haifa. Fadi 2 rockets were used in these attacks, according to Hezbollah's statement, further expanding the scale of their offensive.
Throughout the day, sirens blared across northern Israel, including the Galilee, Nahariya, Nazareth, the Jezreel Valley, and Haifa Bay, warning of ongoing rocket and drone attacks from southern Lebanon. Israeli air defenses were activated as three rocket barrages were launched from Lebanon, with explosions heard in the skies over Nazareth and Afula.
Reports from Israeli media stated that Kiryat Shmona was hit by around 50 rockets, which sparked fires in several locations. A house in the northern city of Tamra was also struck, with nine individuals suffering minor injuries and taken to Nahariya Hospital. An additional five people were transported to HaEmek Hospital in Afula.
As the situation escalated, the Israeli Air Force carried out extensive airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. Israeli media quoted a senior army officer as describing these strikes as the most extensive in the history of Israel's air force. Over 1,600 Hezbollah sites, including homes used to store weapons, were reportedly hit in southern Lebanon and the Beqaa Valley within a single day.
The Israeli army said it had targeted around 400 medium-range rocket launchers, 70 weapon depots, and some 80 drones and cruise missiles since Monday morning.
Over 250 fighter jets have participated in the strikes, dropping some 2,000 munitions, the military added.
