Mohammad Raad, head of Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc, was killed in overnight Israeli airstrikes targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs, according to Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath reported on Monday.
The strikes hit Dahiyeh, a densely populated area that serves as Hezbollah’s political and security hub.
The Israeli military confirmed it carried out what it described as precision strikes on Hezbollah targets across Lebanon, following a barrage of rockets launched overnight toward northern Israel. The rocket fire was claimed by Hezbollah as retaliation for the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, at the outset of a U.S.-Israeli bombing campaign in Iran on Saturday.
Raad was one of Hezbollah’s most prominent political figures and among its most senior remaining officials in southern Lebanon. He led the group’s bloc in the parliament and had long been considered a key link between the organization’s political and military wings.
