In a defiant statement following the inaugural speech of Lebanon's newly elected president, head of Hezbollah’s Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc, MP Mohammed Raad, reaffirmed his party's commitment to safeguarding Lebanon’s sovereignty alongside the Lebanese state and military.
"As you have known us and as we have promised our people, we are the protectors of Lebanese sovereignty, alongside the state and the Lebanese Army," Raad said in a statement.
The newly elected president Joseph Aoun had declared his intention to uphold the state's exclusive right to carry arms, a stance that Raad's bloc appeared to challenge.
He further explained that his bloc's decision to cast blank ballots in the first round of voting was a deliberate move meant to convey a clear message.
"By delaying the vote, we intended to send a message that we are the protectors of national consensus in the country," Raad added.
