Hezbollah Faces Internal Debate Over Response to Senior Commander’s Killing

Hezbollah is grappling with internal divisions over how to respond to the killing of Haytham Ali Tabatabai, the most senior commander targeted by Israel since a November 2024 ceasefire aimed at ending over a year of hostilities.

According to a source close to the group who spoke to AFP on condition of anonymity, there are currently “two opinions within the group: those who wish to respond to the assassination and those who want to refrain from doing so."

However, the leadership tends to adopt the utmost forms of diplomacy at the present stage, the source said.
