A delegation from Sweden’s Christian Democrats Party met with officials from the Kataeb Party on Wednesday, holding talks on Lebanon’s political and economic crisis, as well as regional challenges including the Syrian refugee issue.
The meeting, held at the Kataeb Party’s headquarters in Saifi, brought together key figures from both parties. Representing the Kataeb were Political Bureau member Ghassan Abou Jaoude, Foreign Affairs Department head Marwan Abdallah, and department members Anthony Bou Abboud and Sitrida Bou Naoum.
The visiting Swedish delegation included members of parliament Yusuf Aydin, Magnus Berntsson, and Magnus Jacobsson, as well as Mr. Robert Tamo.
Discussions covered political cooperation between the two parties, with a focus on recent developments in Lebanon. Talks focused on the need to reactivate the country’s constitutional institutions, advance long-stalled economic reforms, and address the political and security implications of Hezbollah’s continued possession of arms.
The Syrian refugee crisis featured prominently in the talks, with both sides expressing concern over the growing burden it places on the Lebanese state and urging a coordinated, comprehensive approach to address this issue.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to consolidating ties between the two parties and enhancing cooperation at the European Union level. Both sides agreed to pursue reciprocal visits and promote joint initiatives in the European Parliament and other EU institutions aimed at supporting Lebanon.
