Hezbollah and Lebanese Government Blamed for Border Escalation, Says Israeli Spokesperson

The Israeli government spokesperson on Tuesday held both the Lebanese government and Hezbollah, acting at Iran’s behest, responsible for the ongoing cross-border tensions.

The spokesperson assured that residents of northern Israel will return to their homes, saying that Israel will restore stability through either military or diplomatic means.

Earlier during the day, Al Arabiya news channel had quoted an unidentified Israeli military official as saying that Hezbollah was forced to retreat its forces eight kilometers from the borderline, stressing that Israeli troops have succeeded in thwarting a large Hezbollah invasion of Israel's Galilee region.

Hezbollah, later, denied the Israeli official’s border withdrawal claim, asserting that the party’s militants are still carrying out some military operations from positions close to the border.
