The European Union is studying options for strengthening Lebanon’s Internal Security Forces to help free up the Lebanese army to focus on disarming the armed group Hezbollah, according to a document seen by Reuters on Monday.

Pope Leo XIV visited Lebanon this week, the third visit by a supreme pontiff to the country since John Paul II in 1997 and Benedict in 2012 (Pope Paul VI stopped very briefly in 1964, on his way to India). A severe traffic jam Sunday night came as a result of the season’s first heavy rains leading to congestion on the coastal highway.
The heavy rain that fell on this evening inundated Lebanon's roads, and the torrential rains caused traffic jams in many areas.
Between Dbayeh and Jesus the King area, a suffocating traffic was recorded due to torrential torrents, as it was reported that rain water entered a number of homes and caused great damage to property.
Many Lebanese expressed their indignation at the renewal of these scenes at every rainstorm, blaming the turmoil on the mismanagement of the concerned ministries and state agencies.
