Hankach Says Lebanon Cannot Withstand Presidential Vacuum Anymore

Lawmaker Elias Hankach on Thursday said that the Kataeb Party and its allies were taking the presidential elections seriously, saying that the other group does not have a candidate until now and it is trying to disrupt the quorum.

“Lebanon cannot withstand presidential vacuum anymore. Sessions must only be held to pick a new Head of State,” Hankach said in an interview with LBCI.

Hankach pointed out that the Kataeb Party had not concluded any settlement before and would never do so, calling on everyone to cast their votes and pick a president instead of obstructing the session.

“Which article of Constitution stipulates two-thirds quorum in sessions?” he asked.

“We support any step taken that is in the interest of president election. All Deputies must hold discussions, respect the Constitution,” Hankach concluded.
