Kataeb candidate for the Maronite seat in Metn district Elias Hankach stressed the importance of restoring Lebanon’s sovereignty that was captured by Hezbollah, saying that this armed militia is holding sway over the country.
“The Maarab settlement that was concluded in 2016 gave the parliamentary majority to Hezbollah and led to the election of its candidate as President. Hezbollah is holding sway over the country, its decisions and its institutions and it is disrupting them when necessary. This armed militia is using the country as a platform to attack Lebanon’s historical friends,” Hankach said from Lyon.
The Kataeb candidate underlined the steps of the party’s electoral program, saying that it encloses democracy, Human rights, environment, education and economic reforms that are required to rebuild Lebanon as soon as possible.
“These steps enclose steps to recover stolen money, to implement Forensic audit on the Central Bank and Ministries and to fix the banking sector,” he added.
Hankach stressed the importance of the independence of the Lebanese judiciary after all the attempts to disrupt it.
“How an investigation can take place into the biggest crime that Lebanon has witnessed when all the representatives wanted for questioning are holding press conferences, challenging the state and launching electoral campaigns?” he asked.
He also addressed the decentralization law that was submitted by the Kataeb party in 2015.
“95% of this law was discussed and we are still waiting for its approval as decentralization will facilitate the life of all the Lebanese,” he said.
“The Kataeb party has been fighting and demonstrating against the ruling elite since 2016. Our resignation from the Parliament after the Beirut blast should have been a motive for all the parties as if they resigned at that time, they would have saved the Lebanese people from two years of crises,” he added.
Hankach said that the Lebanese youth had a pivotal role in rebuilding a country that resembles them.
“The Lebanese expatriates are at the core of the confrontation and their role is important in a bid to rebuild the country through the parliamentary elections,” he concluded.
