Member of the Kataeb Party’s Political Bureau and former minister, Alain Hakim, highlighted the exceptional nature of Bachir Gemayel's leadership during one of Lebanon’s most tumultuous periods, emphasizing that the latter stood as a pillar of strength and resilience amid the challenges of the Lebanese civil war.
Speaking to This Is Lebanon website, Hakim hailed Gemayel’s leadership of the Lebanese Forces—a key military branch of the Lebanese resistance— which was established to protect Lebanese regions and Christian communities, saying that it showcased his long-term vision for a robust and independent state.
This vision was not just about defending territory but about crafting an enduring national identity, Hakim pointed out.
Hakim further explained that the Lebanese Forces fighters regarded Gemayel as a symbol of patriotism and courage, noting that his ability to motivate and inspire through his impassioned speeches made him a unique leader.
The Kataeb official stressed that Gemayel's commitment to a free Lebanon, unshackled by external control, was a fundamental aspect of his fight, adding that his rare blend of military prowess and grassroots connection set him apart as a leader of remarkable distinction.
The struggle under Bachir Gemayel’s banner, Hakim noted, was not merely about defending the land but about upholding the vision of a Lebanon that transcends sectarian divides and stands resolute against foreign interventions.
For many, Bachir Gemayel was the embodiment of the Lebanese dream during that challenging era.
Despite his assassination, Hakim observed that Gemayel’s vision continues to resonate strongly, assuring that the principles he championed—freedom, sovereignty, and independence—remain alive in the hearts of many, driving ongoing efforts to continue his struggle.
