Gemayel to Nasrallah: Clear the Way by Land to Allow the Syrian Refugees to Return to Syria

Kataeb Leader Samy Gemayel considered that Hezbollah holds the keys to the borders, the government, and the crossings, pointing out that "the government's decision is in the hands of Hezbollah and its Secretary-General Nasrallah, who must close the borders to prevent the entry of Syrians and open them to allow them to leave."

"Clear the way by land to allow the Syrian refugees to return to Syria," Gemayel said addressing Nasrallah.

"We hope everyone understands that the Syrian displacement issue is existential for the future of Lebanon, and we all see the numbers of refugees and how the issue has turned into a structural problem," Gemayel pointed out in an interview with MTV.

"We hope to rise above the bidding; now is the time for results, and we want tangible results. Nothing prevents solving the issue today as there is consensus around it," he noted.

He emphasized that "there are laws governing the file of Syrian refugees that must be implemented, as if they are implemented, 80% of the Syrians would return to Syria."

Gemayel asked: "Why are the laws not being implemented?... Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati should be asked about this matter."

"We should know the conditions of the European donation and the government's commitments. None of us have read the text, and we must know what the state's commitments are in exchange for a billion euros before any approval," he added.

He considered that "downgrading the Lebanese representation at the Brussels Conference is evidence that the Syrian regime controls the government's decision and wants to keep the Syrians in Lebanon."
