Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel said on Sunday that Lebanon is navigating a “delicate and decisive” moment, warning of steep challenges ahead but stressing the country is finally moving in the right direction. He pledged that the Kataeb would do everything possible to safeguard that path.
Gemayel said both the president and prime minister are pursuing a “clear sovereign course.”
“For the first time in decades, Lebanon is led by a president and a prime minister steering the country in the right direction. We must support this path, protect it, and stand firmly by it,” he told supporters.
He pointed to a Lebanese Army plan, expected by the end of the month, to place all weapons under State authority. He called the move “highly significant” and said it merited the full backing of the Kataeb and all Lebanese.
“We have truly entered a new phase. What was impossible before has become possible today. As a party, we take great pride in having contributed to this shift through our steadfast opposition to Hezbollah’s weapons and to the deals that were forced upon this country,” Gemayel said.
He added that in 2025 many political forces have now embraced positions long championed by the Kataeb.
“Change will not happen overnight, but we are on the right track. That alone gives us hope for a prosperous future,” he said.
Gemayel stressed that the Kataeb sees itself as both a moral and national safeguard for Lebanon.
“We do not ask people to judge us by our intentions but by our record. We are a party that has never lied to the Lebanese or betrayed its country,” he said.
Closing his speech, Gemayel urged supporters to prepare for next year’s parliamentary elections, insisting that the Kataeb’s renewal and strength were vital to Lebanon’s recovery.
“If the Kataeb Party is well, Lebanon is well. And if Lebanon is well, the Kataeb Party is well. Let us work together to strengthen this party and ensure it remains both a moral and political safeguard in building the Lebanon we dream of; a country of freedom, culture, and prosperity for its youth and its people,” he said.
Gemayel delivered his remarks at a handover ceremony at the party’s Deek El Mehdi–Beit El Shaar branch, where outgoing head Adel Doumit passed leadership to newly elected chief Rabih Baaklini.
