Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel met with British Ambassador Hamish Cowell, with talks focusing on the latest developments in Lebanon and the region.
During the meeting, held at the Kataeb's headquarter in Saifi, Gemayel stressed that Lebanon’s stability and economic recovery hinge on the State reasserting full control over its territory by ensuring that arms are in the hands of the army alone.
Gemayel underlined the need for government decisions to be enforced and made effective, as he also emphasized the importance of supporting and empowering the Lebanese Army as the sole guarantor of stability.
Kataeb chief argued that addressing the weapons control issue is an essential first step and a key prerequisite for launching reconstruction and kickstarting economic recovery.
The talks also covered the upcoming parliamentary elections, with Gemayel reiterating the Kataeb Party’s insistence that non-resident Lebanese retain the right to vote for all 128 members of parliament. He described their full participation in the country's political life as a “fundamental right guaranteed by law.”
The meeting was attended by Kataeb Political Bureau member Ghassan Abou Jaoude, the party’s Head of Foreign Affairs Department Marwan Abdallah, and British Embassy political adviser Ghadi Daou.
