Gemayel Meets Le Drian, Asserts Lebanon’s Right to Build a Sovereign and Weapon-Free State

As part of his international outreach tour , Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel met with French special envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian with whom he discussed the latest developments regarding efforts to reach a solution that ends the current conflict in Lebanon.

During the meeting, Gemayel stressed the need for Lebanon’s sovereignty to take center stage in ongoing ceasefire negotiations, warning against sidelining the nation’s interests in favor of those of Israel and Hezbollah.

In his discussions with Le Drian, Gemayel insisted that any agreement must fully restore Lebanon’s sovereignty and place all weapons under the exclusive control of the Lebanese Army.

“Any deal that does not ensure these conditions would be unacceptable,” he said. “It is impermissible for the interests of Israel and Hezbollah to dominate the negotiations while Lebanon’s State interests are disregarded.”

Gemayel also highlighted the need for transparency regarding the ongoing talks, stressing that critical decisions impacting Lebanon’s future must be openly presented to the Lebanese people.

“These decisions cannot be monopolized by the party that dragged Lebanon into war without the consent of its citizens and is now attempting to seize their decision-making power,” he stated.

The Kataeb leader underscored the right of the Lebanese people to live in a sovereign and free country governed by the rule of law.

“After all the tragedies they have endured, the Lebanese people deserve a nation where everyone is equal under the constitution. This is a non-negotiable principle,” he concluded.
