On March 2, Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel – though the decision for it to do so was almost certainly made by Iran – carrying Lebanon into a new war with Israeli forces. On the same day, Lebanon's government declared Hezbollah's military and security activities illegal. Shortly thereafter, army commander General Rodolphe Haykal made it clear to Prime Minister Nawaf Salam that the military did not have the means to implement the government's decision. Now, the Lebanese army finds itself in an uncomfortable position.

As part of the continuous coordination among opposition parties in Lebanon, Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel held a lengthy phone conversation with Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, with talks featuring high on recent political developments in the country, focusing on the challenges facing the opposition and the broader political landscape.
During the call, Gemayel and Geagea agreed on the importance of maintaining open lines of communication between the two parties, as well as with other opposition forces.
Both leaders emphasized the need to remain prepared for any potential political scenarios that could arise, given Lebanon's ongoing crisis.
