Kataeb Leader Samy Gemayel on Wednesday filed a notification to the public prosecution over the shortage of stamps for verifying official documents.
According to the notification, Gemayel is urging the public prosecution to investigate the matter and punish those responsible for alleged "corruption" related to the stamps.
His report indicated that some licensed stamp sellers have bought a large number of stamps and have monopolized them to sell at higher prices.
After submitting the document, Gemayel's office said in a statement that his notification relied on discussions made in the Interior, Defense and Municipalities parliamentary committee, which he is a member of.
Gemayel's statement added that the scarcity in stamps "led to an inability by the public offices to secure essential public services," leaving people unable to file legal paperwork. Mukhtars, lawyers and others also faced difficulties doing their jobs without "blackmailing" for stamps.
