Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel met Thursday with a delegation from the Change Movement in the South to discuss the latest developments, the impact of Israeli attacks, and the need for urgent reforms.
Talks at the Kataeb headquarters in Saifi addressed the overall political situation, national challenges, and the pressing realities in the south, where ongoing Israeli strikes have created mounting humanitarian tragedies and widespread displacement.
Both sides expressed support for the government’s efforts to reassert sovereignty and ensure the Lebanese state maintains the monopoly on weapons. They also stressed the need for the Lebanese Army to remain the sole guarantor of the people’s security and the defender of their collective interests.
The participants condemned Israel’s repeated aggressions and backed government efforts to secure international guarantees to halt the strikes and enforce a withdrawal from occupied territory.
They further called for national unity, stronger support for the army, and immediate financial, administrative, and judicial reforms, which, according to both sides, are no longer optional but an urgent national necessity to restore confidence at home and abroad.
The talks also highlighted the importance of allowing Lebanese expatriates to take part in the next elections, describing the diaspora as an integral part of the national fabric and a vital source of strength and resources.
The Change Movement delegation presented what it called the “difficult reality” in southern Lebanon, urging comprehensive reconstruction and safe returns for displaced residents. The group underscored the “devastating humanitarian impact” of Israeli strikes, including civilian casualties, destroyed infrastructure, and mass displacement.
Both sides agreed to maintain consultations ahead of upcoming political and electoral milestones, with a shared objective of building a sovereign, democratic, and just Lebanon that meets the aspirations of all its citizens.
The Change Movement delegation included Ali Murad, Khalil Rihan, Mohammad Awada, Mohammad Halal and Hussein Hamadeh. The meeting was also attended by Kataeb Political Bureau members Walid Fares and Patrick Richa.
