Five Most Prominent Israeli Assassinations of Lebanese Hezbollah Commanders

Israel’s strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs on Tuesday, which targeted a senior Hezbollah commander, followed a series of attacks on the Lebanese group’s leadership in the aftermath of the Gaza war.

In addition to the cross-border fire that erupted between Hezbollah and Israel since the start of the war, Israel in recent months has conducted several assassinations against the group.

Here are some of the top Lebanese Hezbollah senior commanders Israel has recently killed:

Fuad Shukr


The senior Hezbollah commander was targeted on Tuesday evening in the Hezbollah stronghold area of Haret Hreik. Although his fate remains unknown, Shukr was confirmed to be in the building that Israel attacked. He is a figure close to Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah and Israel blamed him for a weekend attack that left a dozen youths dead in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Mohammed Naameh Nasser

Nasser was a high-ranking Hezbollah official who was killed by Israel in south Lebanon on July 3. Born in 1965, Nasser was commander of Hezbollah’s Aziz military unit responsible for rocket launches toward Israel.

Sami Taleb Abdallah

The senior field commander was killed on June 11 in the south Lebanon village of Jouaiyya. He was the commander of Hezbollah’s Nasser unit and Israel has accused him of planning and overseeing attacks on Israeli citizens.

Ismail Yusef Baz

Baz was killed by Israel in April in the Ain Baal area. Baz was the commander of Hezbollah’s coastal sector. Israel at the time said that Baz was a prominent and veteran member of Hezbollah’s military wing, where he held several positions.

Wissam al-Tawil


Was a high-level Hezbollah commander killed in an Israeli strike in January. Al-Tawil was the deputy head of a Radwan unit and was killed along with another Hezbollah fighter when the car they were in was struck in the village of Majdal Selm.
