The Kataeb's Economic and Social Council on Tuesday voiced surprise at the "fierce" attack waged against the 2019 draft budget by the same parliamentary blocs represented in the government, slamming the two-facedness and political outbidding that the ruling authority is adopting.

"This is a mere attempt to evade responsibility for a budget that members of the ruling authority have jointly and severally set out in violation of the Constitution," read a statement issued by the council, pointing out that the budget is directly impacting the poor.

The council called on lawmakers who are affiliated to political forces represented in the government and who are objecting to the budget to turn their words into actions by submitting their resignation and joining the opposition ranks.

"Let's work together on amending the budget so that it would serve the interest of Lebanon the Lebanese, and the economy; otherwise, let them cut the outbidding."
