Derian: Presidential Elections to Be Held No Matter What

Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdellatif Derian affirmed that “the current situation that has been ongoing for years in Lebanon does not show any moral obligations of any form, from most of the politicians or officials.”

On the occasion of the Mawlid, Derian said: “The politicians aren’t fulfilling their responsibilities towards the electoral file and the institutional vacuum. They continue to obstruct the judicial investigation into the Beirut blast.”

“The external initiatives from sister states to resolve the ongoing Lebanese crisis is a positive factor and a means to unravel the obstacles. The determination to succeed in any initiative is the goal of the initiators. Some politicians seek to achieve personal interests at the expense of the people and the nation,” he noted.

"Internal activism is the foundation for achieving the presidential deadline," he added, considering that "external activism is a supportive factor which means that parliamentary blocs must bear their historical responsibilities."

"There is no change in the Lebanese system," Derian affirmed.

He also stressed that politics shoud be left aside to allow competent and specialized individuals to take the lead in the public square.
