Residents of Lebanon's southern border villages are facing severe challenges as Israeli strikes continue to devastate the region.
In Debel, while some families have fled, others have chosen to remain, driven by their deep connection to their land. Khalil Hanna, the mayor of Debel, reported that 86 families have decided to stay despite the risks.
"We are struggling with the delivery of aid and fuel, but the security forces and UNIFIL are doing their best to assist us," Hanna told Voice of Lebaon radio station. "ISF General Imad Othman has promised to keep five security personnel stationed at the local post, even though all the hospitals in the area have closed."
In the nearby village of Alma Al-Shaab, the situation is even more dire. Jean Ghafari, the mayor, reported that 90% of the residents have fled since the start of the conflict, with many forced to leave due to the village’s proximity to the Israeli border.
"Approximately 80% of the homes have been completely destroyed, and the agricultural lands have been burned," Ghafari said. The widespread destruction has left those who remain in a precarious situation, with limited access to essential services and support.
