Cyprus Says It’s Not Involved in Military Operations in Middle East

The president of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, responded on Wednesday to war threats made against his country by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, affirming that the island nation “is in no way involved” in any military operations in the region or elsewhere.

Nasrallah had warned Cyprus against allowing Israel to use its ports and airports in the event of a war on Lebanon, saying that it would be then considered as part of the conflict.

The Cypriot president described Nasrallah’s statements as "unpleasant”, adding that they do not reflect reality.

Christodoulides said that his country has always been “part of the solution, not part of the problem”, voicing readiness to maintain diplomatic channels with both the government of Lebanon and with the government of Iran.
