A senior officer in the Lebanese Army leaked classified military information to Hezbollah, endangering a fragile ceasefire with Israel, according to an international intelligence report cited by The Times.
The officer, identified as Suhail Bahij Harb, is alleged to have shared sensitive details from a security control room jointly operated by the United States, France, and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). This facility was specifically established to monitor and enforce the ceasefire, making the alleged breach particularly alarming.
According to the report, Harb’s presence in the security control room was authorized after pressure from senior Hezbollah commander Wafiq Safa, who survived an Israeli assassination attempt in October 2024.
Harb, who serves as the chief of military intelligence for southern Lebanon, allegedly warned Hezbollah in advance of airstrikes and patrols, allowing the group to relocate weapons and evade detection.
The report further claims that Harb is among dozens of Lebanese Army officers implicated in leaking sensitive details to Hezbollah.
The intelligence document states that “Hezbollah uses sensitive internal information about the Lebanese Army to conceal its activities from international entities responsible for regional security.” The report also highlights growing concerns about the Lebanese Army’s ability to maintain effective control over southern Lebanon, a region where Hezbollah has long exerted political and military dominance.
Israeli security sources echoed these concerns, noting that while the Lebanese Army has confiscated some weapons caches in areas vacated by the Israeli army, the leaks have allowed Hezbollah fighters and their arsenal to remain near the Israeli border.
“The leaks by Harb and other officers have undermined efforts to stabilize the area,” one source said.
