Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri condemned Israel's ongoing military actions, emphasizing that the Israeli strategy involves widespread destruction across southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and the southern suburbs of Beirut.
In remarks published by Al-Afdal News, Berri outlined the extensive damage inflicted on several areas, highlighting the Israeli assault on his hometown of Tibnin, including the Al-Berri neighborhood. He noted that several of his relatives’ homes, including his sister’s residence, had been destroyed in the bombardment.
Despite the personal toll, Berri made it clear that such pressures would not sway Lebanon's position.
"Pressuring me will not lead to any concessions on Lebanon's core principles," he asserted, reinforcing his commitment to national sovereignty and resistance to Israeli aggression.
Berri also stressed the urgency of halting the violence, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for a cessation of hostilities and the deployment of the Lebanese Army in southern Lebanon.
"The resolution must be enforced without any modification to its provisions, be it an addition or an omission," Berri said, underscoring Lebanon’s insistence on a just and lasting peace.
The Speaker highlighted Israel’s strategy of systematically "erasing" towns near the southern border, with the aim of rendering the area uninhabitable.
"The enemy wants to make the border area uninhabitable, but I assure you that once the war ends, the people will return to rebuild their towns, no matter the destruction," Berri declared.
Looking ahead, Berri expressed anticipation for the outcomes of the upcoming extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh, scheduled for Monday, which has been convened by Saudi Arabia. He called for the summit to deliver tangible results that would contribute to achieving a ceasefire and ending Israeli hostilities against Lebanon.
